This course is designed to build upon previous writing skills. This course seeks to develop the writing processes and practices necessary for producing successful high school compositions. Students typically learn to write persuasive, critical, and creative multi-paragraph essays, compositions and learn the techniques of writing a research paper. While emphasizing composition, this course will also incorporate significant literature study to expose students to exemplary illustrations of various forms of writing. Throughout the year, students will explore different literary genres and practice how to examine literature and nonfiction with a critical eye, as well as communicate through clear, organized, and detailed written and verbal products. The course is designed to be rigorous, and some work outside of the classroom should be expected.
